Sen Michael Padilla discusses technology policy and economic development initiatives

Senator Michael Padilla, a Democrat representing New Mexico's 14th Senate district since 2013, has recently shared updates on his legislative activities and community engagement through several posts on social media.

On August 25, 2025, Padilla posted about his participation in a committee meeting: "Attending the interim Committee on Science, Technology and Telecommunications at New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. I do a lot of work in the legislature in this swim lane. From #broadband to #cybersecurity to #AI, we need cohesive strategies across state". The post highlights his focus on advancing technology policy areas such as broadband access, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.

Two days later, on August 27, Padilla reported speaking at an event for higher education leaders: "Speaking at the New Mexico Council of University Presidents along with several of my Senate colleagues. I focused my comments on a quantum workforce and water issues facing our state. @senpadilla @nmsenatedems #nmpol #nmleg". In this post, he emphasized both workforce development related to quantum technologies and ongoing water concerns in New Mexico.

On August 28, Padilla reflected on energy policy discussions following a local business luncheon: "It was great to hear from PNM CEO Don Tarry, at the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon, about the future of energy production in New Mexico. His insights directly connect to the economic development legislation I passed this year, which focuses on site". He noted that insights from utility leadership are linked to recent economic development measures he sponsored.

Padilla has served in the state senate since replacing Eric Griego in 2013. As a legislator with experience spanning over a decade, he has focused much of his work on technology policy and economic development within New Mexico.
