Leger Fernández has served as the representative for New Mexico’s 3rd district since her victory in the 2020 general election. In that race, she defeated Alexis Martinez Johnson with 58.7% of the vote to Johnson’s 41.3%. She was re-elected in 2022 after again defeating Alexis Martinez Johnson, securing 58.2% compared to Johnson’s 41.8%. In the most recent contest in 2024, Leger Fernández won against Sharon Clahchischilliage by a margin of approximately two percentage points—162 votes (41.8%) to Clahchischilliage’s 126 votes (43.7%).
