Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) has awarded $866,000 in grants to 15 nonprofit organizations across the state. The announcement was made on August 13 as part of the company’s Blue Impact program, which aims to address social and economic factors affecting health and wellness.

“We have worked in close collaboration with local organizations and partners to support our communities,” said Janice Torrez, BCBSNM president. “We continue to align our investments in areas where we can make the greatest impact.”

Torrez also serves as chair of the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce’s Public Safety Bold Impact Group.

The Blue Impact grants are one component of BCBSNM’s broader community investment efforts. These efforts include additional grants, sponsorships, in-kind donations, volunteer work, and disaster relief initiatives.

BCBSNM structures its community investments around five strategic focus areas: economic opportunity and stability; nutrition; neighborhood and built environment; locally defined health solutions; and optimal health outcomes. These priorities guide the company’s mission to expand access to care by addressing issues such as poverty, food insecurity, housing affordability, transportation access, local health needs, and gaps in care related to immunizations, diabetes care, cardiovascular care, behavioral health, cancer screening, and maternal and infant health.

The grants distributed this year range from $20,000 to $100,000 per recipient. The following nonprofits received funding:

- Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless

- Albuquerque SANE Collaborative

- American Cancer Society

- Fraction Farms

- Fall Prevention Foundation Inc.

- New Mexico Pharmaceutical Care Foundation

- New Mexico Reentry Center

- New Mexico Veterans Integration Centers

- Pecos Valley Public Services

- Pegasus Legal Services for Children

- Rebuilding Together Sandoval County

- Storehouse West

- United Way of North Central New Mexico

- United Way of Northern New Mexico

- YES Housing Inc.

The Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce extended congratulations to BCBSNM for its ongoing commitment to supporting communities throughout New Mexico.
