The Department of Game and Fish in Santa Fe has announced the initiation of checkpoints across the state during the hunting season. These checkpoints aim to gather biological data and identify wildlife law violations, potentially causing minor delays for the public. Officers from other law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, New Mexico State Police, or county sheriff’s offices, may assist in these operations.
The department encourages the public to report any observed wildlife crimes or suspected violations while enjoying outdoor activities in New Mexico. Reports can be made by calling Operation Game Thief at 1-800-432-GAME (4263), where callers can remain anonymous and may receive cash rewards if their information leads to charges being filed. Violations can also be reported online through Operation Game Thief.
