A detective from the 377th Security Forces Squadron has completed a three-week detective academy organized by the Albuquerque Police Department. This initiative aims to enhance investigative skills and foster interagency cooperation. Detective Joel Rinderknecht, who previously served as an APD officer and is an Air Force veteran, participated in the training alongside officers from various local law enforcement agencies, including those from Bernalillo, Rio Rancho, Los Lunas, Estancia, and Sandia Pueblo.
The collaboration between APD and SFS was led by Lt. Col. Juan Cabrera, commander of the 377th Security Forces Squadron. The training focused on advanced investigative techniques such as warrant writing, search and seizure procedures, forensic technology, and courtroom testimony. It also highlighted the importance of working with the District Attorney’s Office and using modern resources for crime-solving.
Michael Gardiner, APD Deputy Commander, said: "The detective academy is a critical step in an officer’s career development, giving them the tools to improve their investigative skills for their future casework." He added that partners from other agencies receive training that includes advanced interviewing techniques aligned with community respect and serious crime handling.
Lt. Col. Cabrera expressed hopes for continued collaboration between APD and SFS. He plans to introduce bike patrol certifications for SFS personnel through APD to further expand capabilities and strengthen community engagement.
The Chamber has expressed excitement about this partnership between Kirtland and APD as it will aid both agencies in ensuring public safety.
