The federal government has approved the addition of Doña Ana County and Otero County, including the Mescalero Apache Tribe, to the Major Disaster Declaration for New Mexico after severe flooding and landslides that began on June 23. This move follows a request from state officials seeking expanded assistance for affected areas.
Residents of Doña Ana County who experienced flood-related property damage are now eligible for financial help. Applications can be submitted online at disasterassistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362.
The updated declaration also allows reimbursement for permanent repairs to public infrastructure in Lincoln County through FEMA’s Public Assistance program. This program is now available to Doña Ana County and Otero County, including the Mescalero Apache Tribe.
State officials report ongoing collaboration with federal agencies to secure additional post-disaster mitigation grant funding.
