U.S. Representative Teresa Leger Fernández posted a series of statements on August 14, 2025, addressing topics ranging from former President Donald Trump’s claims to the impact of tariffs and compensation for New Mexicans affected by radiation exposure.

In her first post at 14:02 UTC, Leger Fernández wrote, "Donald Trump is LYING to EVERY senior in America, and I can prove it."

Later that day at 15:56 UTC, she commented on inflation and tariffs, stating, "Translation: inflation is up and you’re paying more thanks to Trump’s tariffs. But it’s about to get worse.

In fact, 75% of all food items will now face tariffs, so you can expect to pay 10-30% more. Even Fox is freaking out."

By the evening at 21:11 UTC, Leger Fernández turned attention to residents of New Mexico impacted by nuclear testing fallout. She wrote, "New Mexicans affected by radiation exposure from the Trinity Project have spent too long awaiting compensation.

Now that Congress finally expanded RECA, the Department of Justice must act quickly and make sure survivors can access their benefits."

Leger Fernández has represented New Mexico in Congress since her first election victory in 2020. She defeated Alexis Martinez Johnson with a margin of nearly 17 percentage points that year. In subsequent elections in 2022 and 2024, she secured re-election against Martinez Johnson and Sharon Clahchischilliage respectively.

The expansion referenced in her final tweet concerns the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA), which provides restitution for individuals harmed by U.S. nuclear weapons testing—a longstanding issue for many residents near test sites such as those involved with the Trinity Project.
