Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, the current governor of New Mexico, addressed several issues and events in a series of posts on her official X account in early August 2025.
On August 7, Governor Lujan Grisham expressed concern over legislative reluctance to address public safety challenges. She stated, "At a time when public safety is at a breaking point, it’s astounding that any New Mexico lawmaker would be reluctant to come to the table and work on solutions. New Mexicans are tired of inaction and political finger-pointing, especially when it comes to our state’s public safety" (August 7, 2025).
The following day, as the academic year commenced across the state, Governor Lujan Grisham extended gratitude to educators and well wishes to students. On August 8 she posted: "Another school year begins! To our phenomenal teachers: thank you for your patience, creativity, and commitment to educating our children. Wishing all students and staff a wonderful year!"
Later that same day, she publicly recognized Sgt. Aaron Turner from Farmington for his actions during an incident at Fort Stewart. In her post she wrote: "A New Mexico hero. Thank you to Sgt. Aaron Turner of Farmington, who bravely stepped in during the Fort Stewart shooting. Your courage and quick action in the face of terrifying violence saved lives. New Mexico is proud of you." (August 8, 2025).
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has served as governor since January 2019 after previously representing New Mexico's 1st congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives.
