Rob Black, Cabinet Secretary-Designate | New Mexico Economic Development Department
The New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD) has appointed Nora Meyers Sackett as director and Lindsay Humphries as associate director of its new Technology and Innovation Office (TIO). The office is launching with more than $90 million in state funding, which will be used to support startups and sectors within emerging technologies.
“We are grateful to have a strong and experienced team leading this important work for New Mexico’s future,” said Rob Black, cabinet secretary for the Economic Development Department. “Nora Meyers Sackett and Lindsay Humphries have the skills and dedication to help grow innovation and build a tech economy that works for everyone in our state.”
The TIO was created through House Bill 20, signed by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham earlier this year. Its focus includes supporting startups, encouraging commercialization of innovation, and expanding technology sectors such as advanced computing, advanced energy, aerospace, and bioscience.
“Innovation is a key part of our economic strategy and a long-term commitment,” said Nora Meyers Sackett, director of the Technology and Innovation Office. “The breakthroughs shaping our future — like fusion, quantum technologies, and water treatment — are happening now, and we’re investing in the people and ideas that turn those discoveries into real businesses and jobs.”
Sackett brings experience from her previous roles leading EDD’s Office of Strategy, Science and Technology as well as serving as special projects director. She has worked on initiatives related to advanced energy, aerospace, and federal funding strategies. Before joining EDD, she spent over four years in the Office of Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham.
Humphries has managed innovation programs including her tenure as senior program manager at ActivateNM where she led efforts supporting early-stage companies. She also served as program director at Junior Achievement of New Mexico with a focus on entrepreneurship education.
