Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández, a U.S. Representative from New Mexico, posted several statements on her Twitter account in early August 2025 addressing job growth trends and Social Security policy.
On August 1, 2025, Leger Fernández shared a chart and commented on employment under former President Donald Trump, stating, "The chart speaks for itself. Trump came in and job growth plummeted."
Two days later, on August 3, she posted a tweet containing only a link: "https://t.co/eHdaLXKsmA". In another post on the same day, she questioned government communication with seniors regarding Social Security benefits: "How do you tell seniors their government lied to them? That question has bothered me since the Social Security Administration sent out an official mass email claiming the new Republican budget law eliminates taxes on Social Security benefits for 'most' Americans. It doesn’t."
Leger Fernández has served as the representative for New Mexico's 3rd congressional district since 2021. She won reelection in 2022 against Alexis Martinez Johnson with 58.2% of the vote and again in 2024 against Sharon Clahchischilliage, though by a narrower margin of 41.8% to 43.7%. In her initial victory in 2020, she also defeated Alexis Martinez Johnson with nearly 59% of the vote.
