Sen. Block: New U.S.-EU trade agreement is 'great deal for Americans'

Jay Block, a Senator from New Mexico, has described the new U.S.-EU trade deal as a significant achievement for American businesses and farmers. He credited President Trump's team for securing better terms in a statement made on X.

"Another huge deal and great deal for Americans," said Jay C Block, New Mexico State Senator from 12th District (R). "We must be treated fairly in foreign markets. Great job to Trump and his team."

Recent U.S.-EU trade negotiations have centered on expanding market access for American industries. According to Reuters, both parties have been addressing regulatory barriers and tariffs on steel and aluminum. The 2024 Trade and Technology Council saw limited breakthroughs but continued commitments to resolve disputes.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the total annual value of goods traded between the U.S. and the EU reached approximately $909 billion in 2023, positioning the EU as the largest U.S. goods trading partner outside North America.

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative reports that since 2022, some steel and aluminum tariffs between the EU and U.S. have been suspended; however, most agricultural barriers for American exports remain in place, limiting broader market access.

Ballotpedia provides context about Jay Block as a Republican New Mexico state senator and retired Air Force officer whose legislative focus has included economic development. However, he has not made major public statements regarding U.S.-EU trade prior to this recent comment.
