The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners has approved a resolution to accept $25.9 million in capital outlay appropriations from the New Mexico State Legislature. The funds, secured during the 2025 legislative session, are intended for various projects across the county. These projects include affordable housing, behavioral health services, infrastructure upgrades, public safety, and youth and community programs.
"This resolution brings to life an ambitious set of projects made possible through months of collaboration and advocacy," said County Commission Chair Eric Olivas. "We are deeply grateful to the Legislature, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and our county leadership for making these transformative investments possible."
The appropriations allocate $19,454,000 to Bernalillo County and $6,523,444 to nonprofit organizations. Each commissioner expressed strong support for the resolution and highlighted how the funds will benefit their districts and the wider community.
Some specific projects include demolishing an existing building to construct a child development and family services facility in the South Valley; acquiring rights of way for improvements on Atrisco Vista Boulevard; enhancing Phase 2 of Paradise Hills Community Center; and planning Phase 1 of a new fire station for Southwest Mesa.
