The New Mexico Oil & Gas Association (NMOGA) partnered with Speaker of the House Javier Martínez, Albuquerque Public Schools’ McKinney-Vento Program, and professional soccer team New Mexico United to organize a soccer clinic for over 60 children experiencing housing instability. The event took place on July 23 at Garfield Middle School in Albuquerque.

Speaker Martínez opened the event with remarks and participated in activities alongside New Mexico United players. Albuquerque Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Gabriella Blakey also attended, distributing shirts to participants. Each child received a soccer ball signed by United players during an autograph session, as well as gear and swag bags. Parents watched from the sidelines while their children received coaching from professional athletes.

The McKinney-Vento Program provided additional support by bringing its mobile clothing bank to fit students with cleats and athletic shoes. This program is part of a federal initiative that ensures educational access for homeless students.

A hygiene drive was launched at the clinic to provide essential items for students ahead of the new school year. The drive continues beyond the event, with ongoing donations supporting youth in need through the McKinney-Vento Program.

New Mexico United highlighted the partnership on social media, helping to increase awareness about both the clinic and hygiene drive among its fan base across New Mexico: https://www.facebook.com/newmexicoutd/posts/pfbid02JsyG8n2SGFydT6KnwZK4y1Px9J5f8mHbHkLkoYJqWTzQx6iTWKHztpW3u9M7vPml

Local news outlet KRQE News covered the event, reporting on NMOGA’s involvement in community support initiatives.

“This clinic is a clear example of NMOGA’s commitment to meaningful community engagement and our ability to bring industry, policymakers, and families together in impactful ways. This is what leadership looks like, and it is made possible by the strength of our member companies.”

“A special thank-you to Speaker Javier Martínez, Superintendent Dr. Gabriella Blakey, the APS McKinney-Vento team, and New Mexico United for their leadership, collaboration, and commitment to making this event a success.”
