The New Mexico Museum of Art Vladem Contemporary is hosting an exhibition titled "Lucy R. Lippard: Notes from the Radical Whirlwind." This exhibition celebrates the work and influence of Lucy R. Lippard, a prominent writer, activist, and curator known for her contributions to contemporary art and cultural activism over the past six decades.
The exhibition features over 500 artworks, artist books, political posters, and ephemera that reflect Lippard's journey in the art world. It highlights her collaborations with artists like Sol LeWitt and Robert Ryman and her involvement with organizations such as Printed Matter, the Art Workers’ Coalition, and the Heresies Collective.
"Lucy Lippard didn’t just write about revolutions in art, she helped start them," said Alexandra Terry, Curator of Contemporary Art. "Her life’s work reminds us that culture and activism are deeply intertwined, and that art can be a catalyst for meaningful transformation."
Lippard's connection to New Mexico is also a focus of the exhibition. Her work has often explored the region's history and archaeological sites, emphasizing place-based knowledge and activism.
The exhibition runs from October 10, 2025, through August 9, 2026. The New Mexico Museum of Art aims to provide experiences that enhance understanding and enjoyment of art statewide.
