Today, Deb Haaland was in Ruidoso, New Mexico, to aid disaster recovery efforts following severe flooding. Haaland participated in preparing meals and unloading donations as the community deals with ongoing flood challenges. Her team contributed tools like shovels and rakes to assist local recovery work.
“The people of Ruidoso have shown incredible strength and resilience in the face of today’s crisis and the crises they’ve experienced in recent years,” Haaland stated. “I’m here to do what I can as a neighbor to assist their recovery efforts because that’s what New Mexicans do."
The flooding has severely impacted homes, businesses, and infrastructure, claiming several lives. Residents are working tirelessly to protect properties amid criticism of federal emergency service cuts.
“While families in Ruidoso are fighting to save their homes and livelihoods from floodwaters, the Trump administration has abandoned them,” Haaland remarked. She highlighted her commitment to emergency preparedness for rural communities and shared resources for rebuilding efforts.
