NMSSA condemns July 13 church shooting in Kentucky

The New Mexico Shooting Sports Association (NMSSA) has expressed its disapproval of the shooting incident that took place at Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky, on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

On that day, a tragic event unfolded when a shooting occurred at the church, resulting in the deaths of two women and injuries to two men. The situation began when a Kentucky State Police trooper was shot during a traffic stop near Blue Grass Airport. The suspect, identified as Guy House, fled the scene, carjacked a vehicle, and proceeded to the church where he continued his violent actions by firing upon individuals inside. Law enforcement eventually fatally shot House.

According to NMSSA, the organization condemned the incident and acknowledged the loss experienced by the victims' families and the broader community. They emphasized supporting law enforcement personnel who respond to such events and highlighted the ongoing need to prioritize public safety while upholding constitutional rights. NMSSA said its continued commitment to working toward community safety and reducing similar acts of violence.

"The New Mexico Shooting Sports Association condemns this brutal act of violence," said Anthony Segura, executive director of NMSSA. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all those affected by this senseless tragedy. No community should ever have to endure such a devastating act, and we stand in solidarity with the people of Lexington as they grieve."

The NMSSA is a 501c4 non-profit organization dedicated to promoting social welfare, public safety, and national defense. Its mission includes educating citizens on safe firearm handling, supporting law enforcement and military training, encouraging responsible firearm ownership, and fostering sportsmanship. The association also organizes competitive shooting events, works to conserve wildlife resources, serves as the official state association of the National Rifle Association (NRA), and collaborates with other reputable groups on firearms safety and recreational shooting.
