Boil water advisories issued in Ruidoso area due to flooding

The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) is collaborating with several public water systems in the Ruidoso area after severe flooding caused damage and service disruptions. As a precaution, multiple systems have issued boil water advisories to safeguard residents and visitors.

The affected systems include Cedar Creek Mutual Water Consumers Association, River Ranch RV Park, Ruidoso Downs Racetrack, and the Upper Canyon Area of the Ruidoso Water System. Each has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for their respective areas.

Residents using these systems are advised to boil water for at least one minute before consuming it or using it for activities such as making drinks, cooking, or brushing teeth. This also applies to providing drinking water for pets.

Some systems reported no significant impact from the flooding. These include Alto Lakes Water and Sanitation District, Apple Blossom and White Angel Mesa WUA, BPOE Elks Lodge, Safe Haven RV Park, Seeping Springs Campground, Smokey Bear RS Lincoln USFS, Twin Spruce Campground, and Ruidoso Downs Water System.

NMED will continue to work with local officials and water systems to aid recovery efforts and ensure a safe return to normal operations. Additional resources can be found on the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security’s website.
