New Mexico reduces private-land pronghorn licenses for upcoming hunting season

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish has announced a reduction in private-land pronghorn licenses for the 2025-2026 season in northeastern New Mexico. This decision follows four years of aerial surveys indicating a decline in fawn and adult female pronghorn survival rates. Consequently, the department has set limits on the number of licenses available in Game Management Units 41, 42, 47, 56, 57, 58, and 59.

Hunters can find detailed information on license numbers per hunt code in the 2025-2026 Hunting Rules and Information Booklet. Licenses will be accessible online, at vendors, and by phone at 888-248-6866. Due to potential time constraints with phone or in-person purchases for northeastern hunt codes, the department advises hunters to buy their licenses online through their customer accounts.

Licenses will be available starting at 8 a.m. on July 1 and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. The department expects them to sell quickly. Hunters should also consider pre-purchasing game hunting licenses and stamps before July 1 if needed.

Once a hunter selects a limited private-land hunt code online, they have five minutes to complete their credit card transaction before the license is removed from their cart. After all licenses are sold, the hunt code will disappear from the dropdown menu.

Additionally, hunters must obtain written permission from landowners before hunting.
