The New Mexico State Library has launched a new initiative to provide free virtual learning opportunities for residents through a partnership with GetSetUp, a digital learning platform. This initiative is supported by a USDA Rural Utilities Service Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant, aligning with the library's goal to bridge the digital divide and ensure equitable access to educational resources.
State Librarian Eli Guinnee said, "Statewide access to GetSetUp interactive classes and the database of recorded classes will be a tremendous resource for all New Mexicans who want to build their skills, explore a hobby, or get a specific IT question answered." The program allows residents to access these resources via the El Portal digital resources page at elportalnm.org/.
New Mexico public libraries will host live and on-demand classes provided by GetSetUp. These sessions are available to all state residents without requiring a library card. A live launch event is scheduled for Thursday, July 17, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Santa Ana Pueblo Community Library.
GetSetUp offers over 150 classes focusing on digital literacy topics such as general computer skills and training in Apple, Microsoft, and Google platforms. Classes also cover cyber safety and other essential computer skills. Lawrence Kosick, President and Co-founder of GetSetUp, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: "We’re thrilled to partner with the New Mexico State Library to bring accessible digital learning to communities statewide."
GetSetUp aims to provide continuous learning opportunities for older adults through expert-led sessions conducted in multiple languages. The platform collaborates with various organizations like AAAs and Departments of Aging.
