Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has secured federal emergency funding to bolster efforts against the Cotton Fire in Valencia County, New Mexico. The funds will provide additional firefighting crews, engines, and air support to assist local operations.
“New Mexican families are facing substantial challenges tonight, and we are mobilizing all available state resources to assist them,” stated Gov. Lujan Grisham. She expressed gratitude for the dedication of firefighters and first responders dealing with difficult conditions and emphasized that further resources are being dispatched to enhance firefighting capacity and protect communities.
The New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will utilize the federal assistance to supplement local firefighting efforts with more personnel and equipment.
The State Emergency Operations Center remains active in coordinating necessary resources requested by local emergency managers due to wildfires and severe weather across the state. For evacuees from Valencia County, a shelter has been established at the Daniel Fernandez Recreation Center located at 1103 Highway 314 NW, Los Lunas, NM 87031.
