The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science is offering a range of activities this summer to help visitors escape the heat while learning about science fiction, paleoart, and more. Executive Director Dr. Anthony Fiorillo highlighted the museum's offerings: "With our Young Explorers Summer Camps and Junior Docent program throughout the week, and activities nearly every weekend, there’s always something new to explore at the museum in June and July."
One highlight is Sally’s Night on Friday, June 20, celebrating Dr. Sally Ride, the first American woman in space. The event will feature Melinda Snodgrass, known for writing a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode. She will be available from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. to sign her books.
Visitors can also explore the traveling exhibition Sci-Fi & Sci-Fact, which examines how science fiction and scientific fact intersect. At the end of June, a public engagement event titled "What’s Old Will Be New" will provide information about upcoming renovations set to begin in August.
In July, the museum continues with events including Family Day on July 12 where visitors can bring rocks and fossils for identification by experts. On July 19 at 6:30 p.m., heliophysicist Dr. Chris Lowder will discuss NASA’s PUNCH mission.
Museum Set and Exhibit Designer Alaina Wiwi will talk about artworks in the Bradbury Stamm Construction Hall of Ancient Life on July 23 at 10:00 a.m. The final Relaxed Night of 2025 takes place on July 31 with sensory-friendly activities from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Before closing for renovations, a weekend of activities starting August 2 will include food trucks and family events. More details are available at nmnaturalhistory.org/events.
