Local organizations and officials in Albuquerque are preparing to address recent immigration policies at a press conference. The event, set to take place at El CENTRO de Igualdad y Derechos, will feature various groups and individuals who aim to denounce former President Donald Trump's immigration strategies. These strategies include mass deportation and the enforcement of federal immigration laws that many believe erode constitutional rights.

Among those scheduled to speak are Speaker of the New Mexico House of Representatives Javier Martinez, representatives from the New Mexico Conference of Catholic Bishops, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of New Mexico, public safety advocates, and members of the Albuquerque Teachers Federation. The speakers plan to highlight the negative impact these policies have on immigrant communities in Albuquerque.

The press conference will occur on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at El CENTRO de Igualdad y Derechos located at 714 4th Street SW in Albuquerque.

Participants expected to attend include Teresa Hernández from El CENTRO de Igualdad y Derechos; Javier Martínez; Sonya Romero Autrey from the Albuquerque Teachers Federation; Allen Sanchez representing the New Mexico Conference of Catholic Bishops; Leon Howard from ACLU of New Mexico; and representatives from the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center.

The goal is to bring attention to local efforts aimed at protecting immigrant communities against what organizers describe as "terrifying" federal measures.
