The annual State Tribal Leaders Summit took place on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Santa Fe Indian School. The summit, established in 2009 under the State Tribal Collaboration Act, aims to ensure that tribal priorities are reflected in state policy.
Tribal leaders from Nations, Pueblos, and Tribes across New Mexico met with Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, state cabinet secretaries, and tribal liaisons. The discussions focused on potential implications of proposed federal budget cuts to SNAP and Medicaid. Economic development, capital outlay, and tribal infrastructure funding were also on the agenda.
"These gatherings are critical in addressing the mutual concerns between tribal and state leadership," said Governor Lujan Grisham. IAD’s Cabinet Secretary Josett D. Monette added, "Under Governor Lujan Grisham’s administration, there has been unparalleled support and investment in the Nations, Pueblos, Tribes and tribal communities in New Mexico."
A reception followed the summit at Hotel Santa Fe where conversations and relationship building continued.
