A Santa Fe resident, Anthony Nieto, has been formally charged with assault resulting in serious bodily injury related to an incident that occurred in 2022. The charges stem from an event on November 24, 2022, where Nieto allegedly assaulted a victim, leading to significant injuries.
Court documents identify Nieto as a 38-year-old enrolled member of Nambé Pueblo. He faces charges of assault resulting in serious bodily injury and is currently detained pending a detention hearing set for June 3, 2025. If found guilty of these charges, he could face a prison sentence of up to ten years.
The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison. The investigation was conducted by the Pojoaque Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney A. Mark Probasco handling the prosecution.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
