New Mexico House Republicans have announced that Representative William (Bill) Hall issued a statement mourning the death of Officer Timothy Ontiveros and offering condolences to his family and friends.

According to a report by ABC News, Bloomfield Police Officer Timothy Ontiveros died after being critically wounded during a Memorial Day traffic stop in northwestern New Mexico. The suspect, who had prior arrests, began shooting after refusing to cooperate and being removed from his vehicle; Ontiveros was struck, and a second officer returned fire, killing the suspect. Ontiveros, 33, had previously served with the Farmington Police Department and volunteered as a firefighter in Aztec. Law enforcement escorted his body from an Albuquerque hospital, and a GoFundMe was created to support his family.

"My heart is with the family and friends of Officer Timothy Ontiveros as we mourn his passing. I also stand with the Bloomfield community and the Bloomfield Police Department during this incredibly difficult time," said Hall in a press release. "Officer Ontiveros was more than a law enforcement officer — he was a dedicated public servant who chose every day to protect and serve with professionalism, courage, and integrity. His commitment to the safety and well-being of his community will not be forgotten. May his memory be a blessing, and may those who knew and loved him find comfort and strength in the days ahead."

The Bloomfield Police Department in New Mexico commits to delivering professional and ethical law enforcement services in partnership with the community, aiming to address crime and social issues to enhance public safety and quality of life. Officers uphold a formal oath to carry out their duties faithfully and protect the U.S. and state constitutions. The department operates under the motto "Serve with Respect, Lead with Honor," according to its website.

The New Mexico House Republicans focus on reducing government size, promoting individual responsibility, and protecting personal freedoms. They aim to preserve Second Amendment rights, address economic and infrastructure issues, and empower local authorities. Their policies include enhancing penalties for firearm-related crimes while opposing gun ownership restrictions for law-abiding citizens.
