Marshall Martinez - Executive Director | Equality New Mexico
Equality New Mexico (EQNM) is gearing up for Pride season with a focus on community, connection, and conversation amid ongoing challenges faced by LGBTQ communities. In 2025, the atmosphere surrounding Pride events has shifted due to legislative attacks, surveillance threats, and disinformation campaigns targeting LGBTQ individuals. Despite these obstacles, EQNM emphasizes the importance of unity and liberation within the community.
The organization plans to participate in various celebrations across New Mexico. Events include a fundraiser at M’Tucci’s and ABQ Pride Fest on June 7, as well as other gatherings such as Bold Futures Family Pride and Social Club Pride on the same day. Additional events are scheduled throughout the summer and fall in Farmington, Santa Fe, Taos, and Las Cruces.
EQNM will not participate in the Albuquerque parade this year. Instead, they aim to strengthen their organizing efforts at more Pride events. "As an organization," EQNM stated, "we made a decision to emphasize our organizing capacity at more Pride events." This strategy involves tabling activities, one-on-one conversations with volunteers, educational initiatives about data privacy through their NM CHISPA project, and disseminating accurate information regarding state budgets and policies.
To support these initiatives, EQNM seeks at least 25 volunteers to help create safe spaces during Pride celebrations. The organization encourages individuals to join them in both celebrating and organizing for the LGBTQ community.
"Come celebrate with us. Come organize with us," EQNM invites all who wish to contribute.
