The Conservation Voters New Mexico (CVNM) has issued a statement reflecting on the actions taken by the Trump Administration, which they consider reckless and detrimental to various communities and institutions. According to CVNM, these measures have immediate and potentially lasting impacts on democracy and environmental protections.
CVNM has expressed concerns about executive actions from the Trump Administration that they believe undermine key democratic institutions. "We have all witnessed the thoughtless and reckless actions of the Trump Administration," the statement reads. CVNM warns against normalizing these actions, describing them as "direct assaults upon the bulwarks of our institutions and our democracy."
The organization emphasizes its work with state legislators and allied groups to create protective measures for New Mexico communities, aiming to counter the federal actions. CVNM is actively tracking and responding to what they describe as "numerous attacks of the Trump Administration on our issue areas."
CVNM's response includes criticism of Trump's orders related to environmental protection, as well as civil rights. They highlight issues such as executive orders on public lands and environmental rollbacks. A list of specific actions includes:
- The slashing of protections and the ordering of logging on federal public lands
- The actions by the EPA Administrator to call for the elimination of 31 essential rules
- A statement addressing a Trump executive order restricting state rules
- Allegations of federal attacks on civil rights foundations
- Rollbacks impacting the environment and democratic processes
CVNM also addresses actions related to the California Clean Air Act Waiver and the disapproval by the House of the waiver that allows for state clean vehicle standards.
CVNM calls for community unity and dialogue to contest the perceived abuse of power. "Together, by maintaining descent, determination, and dialogue, we can, as a community, speak up against this abuse of power," they state. They express solidarity with immigrant, Indigenous, LGBTQ+, black, Latino, and other targeted communities.
