Marco Alarid White, a third-year law student, has coauthored an article in the Fordham Voting Rights and Democracy Forum with Donald K. Sherman and Virginia Canter. The piece, titled “The Law of Disqualification and Problems with the Supreme Court Code of Conduct,” delves into the ethical guidelines of the Supreme Court. This work appears following the Court's release of its Code of Conduct and is among the initial scholarly discussions on this topic.
The article traces the origins of the federal disqualification statute relevant to federal judges, magistrates, and Supreme Court Justices. It examines the judicial disqualification standards for all Article III judges and Justices, proposing legislative amendments to address ambiguities within the existing Code of Conduct.
Alarid White's interest in this subject materialized during his participation in the UNM School of Law’s D.C. Program. The program provides students with experiential legal training in Washington D.C. Alarid White, while at the program, worked with the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics, where he collaborated with his co-authors.
