John Block, a state representative for New Mexico's District 51, expressed concerns over taxpayer-funded content from MTO, which he claims promotes partisan messaging against voter integrity measures and misleads the public about proposed election laws.
"Good to know our tax dollars are going to leftist propaganda that trashes voter integrity measures and encourages more fraud," said Block, House Representative. "Now, this trash from MTO is being paid for by us, taxpayers. Auntie Barnes. That trashes voter integrity measures."
In April 2025, the U.S. House passed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. This legislation requires proof of U.S. citizenship—such as a passport or birth certificate—for voter registration. According to The Washington Post, supporters argue that the bill enhances election integrity, while critics contend it could disenfranchise millions, particularly naturalized citizens and those without easy access to necessary documents. Legal challenges have already emerged, with a federal judge temporarily blocking aspects of a related executive order from former President Trump.
A study by the Brennan Center for Justice indicates that voter fraud in the United States is extremely rare, with incident rates ranging between 0.0003% and 0.0025%. The report highlights that Americans are statistically more likely to be struck by lightning than to commit in-person voter fraud. Despite these findings, proposals like the SAVE Act continue to gain traction under the premise of securing elections.
Research published by the University of Chicago Press found that strict voter ID laws significantly reduce voter turnout among marginalized communities, particularly racial and ethnic minorities. These effects are especially pronounced during primary elections. Experts caution that the SAVE Act may further suppress participation among vulnerable populations already facing voting barriers.
According to the New Mexico Legislature’s official site, Block has served as a Republican state representative for District 51 since 2023 and is a member of the House Government, Elections & Indian Affairs Committee. He supports enhanced election security measures and aligns with efforts to implement stricter voter ID requirements. Block has consistently backed legislation aimed at preventing alleged voter fraud.
