New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham released a statement on the death of Pope Francis. The Pope passed away at the age of 88.

Governor Lujan Grisham said, "Today, Manny and I join the people of New Mexico and the global community in mourning the loss of Pope Francis." She praised Pope Francis for embodying values of compassion and dignity that align with those of New Mexicans. Pope Francis was recognized by the Governor for his call for "a humble, more merciful and inclusive church" and his influence extended into New Mexico.

Governor Lujan Grisham invited all New Mexicans to reflect on Pope Francis's legacy and work towards a "more just, more merciful world." In his honor, flags in New Mexico will be flown at half-staff until sunset on the day of his interment.
