Stefani Lord, the state representative for New Mexico House District 22, said her expectation of significant "mudslinging" in the state's governor primary race. She made this comment in a post on X on April 11.
"Watching Bregman and Haaland compete in the New Mexico Governor's primary will be very entertaining and eye-opening," said Lord, New Mexico State Representative for 22nd District (R). "The leftist libs will circle the wagons around Haaland, and Bregman will grab the moderate Dems who are sick of the crime. I expect Bregman to call out how the radical progressive extremism does not reflect the values of most native New Mexicans and how they have created a crime epidemic. Expect a lot of mudslinging."
Democrat Deb Haaland announced her candidacy for New Mexico’s governorship in February. According to NBC, she previously served as Secretary of the Department of the Interior during President Joe Biden’s term and is a former U.S. Representative for New Mexico. "When I became New Mexico's member of Congress and then the leader of the U.S. Department of the Interior, I seized the opportunity to make change. But the problems we face now are bigger than ever, and we must be fierce to solve them. That's why I am running for governor of the great state of New Mexico," Haaland said in a video announcing her campaign as cited by NBC. If elected, Haaland could become the first Native American woman elected to a governorship. She is a registered member of Laguna Pueblo.
