City Councilor Dan Lewis has advocated for funding to revitalize the "Bosque Rio Sunset" art piece on the Montaño Bridge in Albuquerque. The project aims to restore the mural created by artist Dave Dekker in 1997, which features a blend of colors inspired by the surroundings of the Rio Grande and the Bosque.

"This artwork is a daily visual experience for thousands of our residents," Lewis stated. He emphasized the need to restore the mural to maintain its vibrancy and to continue inspiring those who cross the bridge. "It reflects the natural beauty that makes Albuquerque so special. However, after nearly three decades, Bosque Rio Sunset requires a refresh to maintain its vibrancy and continue to inspire those who cross the Montaño Bridge. By securing this funding, we are investing in the preservation of a cherished piece of our city’s cultural landscape."

The revitalization will focus on the 6,000 running feet of art that have worn over time. Voters will decide on the project in November, and under city policy, 1.5% of each bond is set aside for public art, prioritizing this restoration for community enrichment.
