New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham is set to lead an economic development delegation to Singapore and Japan, commencing April 12, 2025. This trade mission is designed to bolster business relations, highlight New Mexico’s proficiency in advanced energy technologies and computing, and assess potential for exporting natural gas.
"This mission represents a tremendous opportunity to showcase New Mexico's energy innovation and advanced technology sectors to key international partners," said Lujan Grisham. "We're focusing on creating jobs and attracting investment to our state while strengthening relationships with companies already doing business in New Mexico."
Accompanying the governor will be Rob Black, the state’s Economic Development Director, and Caroline Buerkle, the deputy chief operating officer in the Office of the Governor. Expenses for the trip are covered by The New Mexico Partnership.
In Singapore, the delegation is slated to confer with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to engage in discussions about economic collaborations and opportunities for foreign investment in New Mexico. They will also meet with Temasek Holdings' chairperson, whose association has financial interests in the state's border region. The visit includes an energy roundtable with industry leaders and site visits to innovative infrastructure projects.
Governor Lujan Grisham will then travel to Japan to meet with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba to deliberate on energy and technology partnerships. Her itinerary comprises a briefing at the U.S. Embassy, participation in a technology and energy roundtable, and consultations with top Japanese energy policy experts.
The U.S. Ambassador to Japan will host a reception in honor of Lujan Grisham during her stay. The governor is expected to return to the United States on April 29, concluding her trip by meeting with New Mexico Amigos, a civic leaders group, in Los Angeles prior to heading back to New Mexico.
