KÜHL has announced a new study ranking Carlsbad Caverns National Park fourth nationwide for wildlife spotting in its report on the best U.S. national parks for observing animals. The announcement was made in a press release on March 26, 2025.

According to the study conducted by outdoor brand KÜHL, Carlsbad Caverns National Park was ranked fourth among U.S. national parks for wildlife spotting. The study evaluated eight wildlife categories and assessed both species variety and public interest. The park distinguished itself with its bird diversity, recording 362 bird species, and also ranked highly for reptile and mammal sightings, featuring 43 reptile and 68 mammal species, including notable animals like Brazilian free-tailed bats, Texas banded geckos, and Rocky Mountain elk.

The study by KÜHL, released ahead of National Park Week, placed Carlsbad Caverns alongside other leading parks such as Grand Canyon, Great Smoky Mountains, and Big Bend for wildlife enthusiasts. Carlsbad ranked fourth for birdwatching, fifth for reptile sightings, and seventh for mammals, contributing to its strong overall position. The rankings are based on species presence in each park and the interest shown by visitors in wildlife observation.

"Wildlife spotting is one of the best ways to experience a national park, and Carlsbad Caverns offers visitors a truly unique mix of desert and underground ecosystems to explore," said Oded Gross, marketing specialist at KÜHL.
