On April 2, a protest will take place at the Planned Parenthood facility located at 4630 Eubank Blvd NE in Albuquerque from 12 PM to 1 PM. This event coincides with the United States Supreme Court's hearing of oral arguments in the case of Kerr v. Planned Parenthood, which addresses state funding for the abortion provider.
Abortion Free New Mexico is organizing this protest as part of nearly 100 similar events nationwide on April 2. These protests are coordinated by the Pro-Life Action League and Citizens for a Pro-Life Society, aiming to call for the removal of federal funding from Planned Parenthood. The funds would be redirected to health centers that do not perform abortions. Planned Parenthood receives close to $700 million annually in taxpayer funding.
Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico commented, "Planned Parenthood claims that American women rely on them for healthcare, but a recent New York Times expose found they’re spending more resources lobbying in Washington DC than they are helping women." She further said, "Planned Parenthood provides less than 1% of annual pap tests and breast exams but performs 42% of annual abortions in the U.S. They’ve been caught shielding child predators, defrauding Medicaid, and harvesting fetal tissue for profit. This controversial organization does not deserve our tax dollars."
Shaver emphasized that pro-life advocates are committed to ensuring that no funding is taken away from programs assisting poor women and families. She explained, "The effort to defund Planned Parenthood has nothing to do with taking healthcare away from women. It’s about taking tax dollars away from the nation’s largest abortion chain."
These nationwide protests are organized by Citizens for a Pro-Life Society and the Pro-Life Action League. More information about the April 2 Defund Planned Parenthood protest can be found at NoMoneyForAbortion.com.
