The New Mexico Economic Development Department (NMEDD) conducted a webinar on March 26 aimed at discussing updates to the state's Empower & Collaborate State Economic Development Plan. This event is a component of the broader strategy for comprehensive economic development in New Mexico. The strategy encompasses short-term opportunities, long-term planning, and economic diversification.
NMEDD collaborated with various stakeholders including state agencies such as the Department of Workforce Solutions, Higher Education Department, Indian Affairs Department, and Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department. Regional and local governments, as well as multiple organizations and industry leaders, were also involved in creating a strategic plan and identifying actions for economic growth.
"This state plan is not intended to be the final step but serve as a critical first step for unifying New Mexico’s economic development ecosystem," stated a representative. The vision for New Mexico consists of establishing a diverse and robust economy that engages local talent, encourages innovation, and ensures prosperity for all residents.
The discussion included a range of speakers such as NMEDD Cabinet Secretary-designate Rob Black, Lorenzo Reyes from San Juan College, and Taos Mayor Pascualito Maestas. The session was moderated by NMEDD's Just Transition Advisor Kayla Lucero-Matteucci.
