The New Mexico Interfaith Power and Light (NM IPL) recently hosted a Spring Immersion Retreat, attracting participants from Albuquerque, Carlsbad, Chaparral, El Paso, San Antonio, and Laredo. They traveled to Southeast New Mexico to explore oil and gas production and discuss environmental and health issues related to these activities.
During the retreat, attendees engaged with frontline community members, observed illegal methane emissions using a FLIR camera, and participated in prayer sessions. The participants shared their concerns regarding environmental impacts and committed to further actions aimed at protecting air quality, water resources, the climate, and local communities.
The retreat was part of NM IPL's ongoing efforts to engage people of faith in environmental activism. The organization has announced that another retreat is scheduled for the fall.
