ReMatriation: Return to the Land, Return to Ourselves will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the NM State Capitol Roundhouse Rotunda in Santa Fe, NM. The gathering aims to address critical issues affecting Indigenous communities and women.
The event will begin with an Indigenous Prayer Walk at 11:00 AM followed by an opening prayer by Saya’in of Tewa Women United at noon. Governor Jenelle Roybal and the Mescalero President will extend a welcome from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM. Dr. Phobe Suina of Cochiti Pueblo, along with Youth MCs and local youth, will give presentations focusing on climate change and fire from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM.
Local dancers will perform between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. The event concludes with a call to action and closing remarks from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM.
This gathering serves as a platform for communities to reflect on environmental justice issues impacting Native lands and families while honoring the roles Native women play within their communities. It aligns with Indigenous Women’s Day by standing in solidarity and raising awareness about violence, climate impacts, and cultural disruption faced by Native women, LGBTQ2S+ relatives, and families.
