Michelle Lujan Grisham, Governor of New Mexico, announced a new partnership with BorderPlex Digital Assets, emphasizing the state's leadership in advanced manufacturing and global trade. The statement was made in a press release on February 25.
"This groundbreaking partnership further cements our reputation as a national leader in advanced manufacturing and global trade," said Lujan Grisham.
According to the press release, the BorderPlex Digital Infrastructure Campus is expected to generate 1,000 new jobs in New Mexico across various sectors including construction, IT, logistics, and manufacturing. The project will also lead to $5 billion in construction spending over the next decade, with $1.5 billion annually allocated for IT equipment purchases. These investments are anticipated by the State of New Mexico to enhance the region’s infrastructure and economic competitiveness.
The National Association of Manufacturers reported that New Mexico’s manufacturing sector contributed approximately $5.1 billion to the state’s economy in 2023, representing 3.7% of the state’s GDP. The industry employed 29,600 workers across more than 1,000 manufacturers, with employees earning an average annual salary of $79,722—higher than the state’s non-farm average of $74,117.
Digital trade played a significant role in contributing $2.6 trillion to the U.S. GDP in 2022, accounting for 10% of total U.S. economic output. It supports over 3 million American jobs across industries such as telemedicine, manufacturing, transportation, and entertainment. According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, strong digital trade policies are crucial for sustaining job growth and maintaining U.S. economic competitiveness.
Grisham is New Mexico’s 32nd Governor and notably the first Democratic Latina U.S. governor. A former Congressional Hispanic Caucus chairperson, she has focused on education, healthcare, and economic growth during her tenure. As noted on her website, she is a 12th-generation New Mexican and holds a law degree from the University of New Mexico.
