The New Mexico Association of Non-Public Schools (NMANS) has announced a Legislative Breakfast designed to assist non-public school leaders in understanding the legislative process and connecting with state lawmakers. This announcement was made through a news release on February 2, 2025.

According to the release, the event is scheduled for Friday, February 21, 2025, at 8:00 AM at the New Mexico State Capitol. A recent survey highlighted that many heads of non-public schools have limited connections with their district representatives and senators and lack a clear understanding of how state legislation impacts their schools. In response, NMANS is organizing this event to address these concerns and aims to make the Legislative Breakfast an annual gathering during the legislative session.

"Building relationships between non-public schools and legislators is key to ensuring that schools can continue to provide high-quality, diverse educational options," said Bob Ippel, executive director of NMANS. "This breakfast will be an important opportunity for non-public school leaders to gain a deeper understanding of the legislative process and to advocate for policies that support their students and communities."

Ippel further noted that as non-public schools in New Mexico continue to meet diverse student needs, it is essential for them to have a supportive legislative environment. He said, "This event will be a step toward ensuring that non-public schools are well-represented and understood in the policymaking process." For more information about the NMANS Legislative Breakfast or to RSVP, interested parties are encouraged to contact Ippel at nmansinfo@gmail.com.

The New Mexico Association of Nonpublic Schools, based in Rehoboth, advocates for the interests of nonpublic schools across the state. It promotes educational diversity by providing resources, networking opportunities, and legislative representation for its members. The association hosts an annual convention where educators and school leaders exchange ideas, discuss policies, and collaborate on best practices. Additionally, it works to ensure nonpublic schools have a voice in state education policies and fosters relationships between schools and policymakers.
