A Shiprock man has been sentenced to 23 years in federal prison for the fatal stabbing of John Doe at a gas station in Shiprock, New Mexico. The incident occurred on October 24, 2021, following an evening of socializing and drinking. Marc Gene Clark, 47, who is an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, confronted Doe in the parking lot without provocation and stabbed him with a knife. This resulted in significant blood loss leading to Doe's death later that day.

Surveillance footage captured the event, and Clark was arrested shortly afterward at a nearby laundromat by officers from the Navajo Nation Police Department. The knife used in the attack was found in his possession.

Upon completion of his prison term, Clark will be subject to five years of supervised release as there is no parole system federally.

The sentencing announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The investigation was conducted by the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office with assistance from the Navajo Police Department and Department of Criminal Investigations. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Matthew J. McGinley and Paul J. Mysliwiec.
