The New Mexico Family Action Movement (NM FAM) has declared its support for President Trump's executive order dated January 28, 2025, which restricts federal funding for gender-transition treatments for minors. This announcement was made public through a press release on January 30, 2025.
NM FAM is urging the state of New Mexico to enforce the executive order and implement further legislative and regulatory measures to protect children from irreversible medical procedures. The organization also calls upon New Mexicans, including parents, teachers, and community leaders, to back actions that ensure children are not subjected to what they describe as "experimental medical treatments," as said in their press release.
According to the White House, President Trump's executive order bans federal funding or support for gender-transition procedures for minors. This includes puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries. The order requires a review of policies based on questionable scientific guidance and seeks to prevent medical institutions from using federal funds for these procedures on children. It directs various government departments such as the Department of Defense, the Department of Justice, and the Department of Health and Human Services to halt these practices and safeguard minors from such medical interventions.
"This executive order is a crucial step in prioritizing the safety and well-being of our children and highlights the urgent need for responsible, evidence-based medical practices when it comes to minors," said Jodi Hendricks, Executive Director of NM FAM. Hendricks added that they do not believe any child should be subjected to ‘gender-affirming’ treatments and are committed to advocating for a complete ban on these practices for minors. "While this executive order is a victory," she continued, "our work to protect children is far from over."
The New Mexico Family Action Movement focuses on promoting values such as religious freedom, family strength, and life protection within New Mexico. Their mission encompasses safeguarding life from conception to natural death, supporting family units, and defending religious freedoms.
