Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has appointed Taylor Michelle Cook as the director of homeless initiatives for New Mexico. Cook brings a wealth of experience in designing systems for homeless services, managing projects, and conducting applied research.

“Taylor has dedicated her career to building equitable systems that support the most vulnerable populations,” stated Gov. Lujan Grisham. “Her deep knowledge, combined with her hands-on experience, will strengthen our state’s efforts to combat homelessness and expand access to housing.”

Cook is currently pursuing a doctorate in Community and Regional Planning at the University of Texas at Austin. She has previously led advocacy work as chair of the Texas Homeless Network and contributed to national research on housing systems. In Austin, her work focused on developing innovative solutions for homelessness and improving social service access.

In her new role, Cook will spearhead New Mexico's strategies to tackle homelessness by coordinating efforts, utilizing public-private partnerships, and ensuring community-driven sustainable solutions.

“I am honored to serve in this capacity and contribute to advancing New Mexico’s goals of reducing homelessness and increasing access to critical services,” Cook remarked. “By fostering collaboration and innovation, we can make meaningful progress toward building a more inclusive and supportive community for all New Mexicans.”
