Nusenda Credit Union has opened a new branch at the Journal Center, located at 7644 Jefferson St. NE. The opening took place on January 11. This expansion adds to Nusenda's network of over 20 branches in New Mexico and four in El Paso.

The credit union was originally founded in 1936 by eight local educators, including Maurine Grammer, under the name Albuquerque Public Schools Federal Credit Union. In 1982, it became New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union to better represent its growing membership among education-related employees and their families.

By 2014, Nusenda had expanded to include 16 offices across various locations such as Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Los Lunas, Santa Fe, Taos, and Socorro. A year later, in 2015, the credit union adopted the name Nusenda Credit Union to reflect its broader capabilities.

Officials note that Nusenda has evolved from serving educators and their families to supporting hundreds of thousands of members affiliated with more than 500 businesses, nonprofits, and educational institutions throughout New Mexico. It holds the distinction of being the largest credit union in the state both in terms of membership and assets. Additionally, Nusenda is a member of the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce.
