Art de la Cruz House District 12 | Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter

The Sierra Club, along with other environmental organizations, has initiated legal action against the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) decision to delay a rule aimed at curbing methane emissions from oil and gas operations on public lands. This rule is intended to significantly reduce methane emissions, which are substantially more potent than carbon dioxide, as well as decrease toxic air pollutants.

The lawsuit seeks to maintain these measures that aim to limit waste and air pollution. The Sierra Club is represented by Earthjustice in this legal challenge. In addition to the environmental groups' lawsuit, the states of California and New Mexico have also contested the delay.

Sierra Club Staff Attorney Elly Benson commented on the situation with a statement released today.

Gabby Brown and Camilla Feibelman can be contacted for further information regarding this issue.
