Del Archuleta Education BIG Chair Molzen-Corbin & Associates | Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce
Netflix recently hosted the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce (GACC) Board of Directors at its Mesa del Sol campus. The meeting, held on October 24, included a presentation from GACC Treasurer Kellie Mixon and briefings by Scott Hindman, Public Safety BIG Chair; Paul Madrid, Education BIG Vice Chair; and Del Esparza, who discussed Downtown Transformation BIG priorities for the upcoming year.
The Chamber aims to focus on strategic initiatives such as addressing public safety threats like repeat offenders and fentanyl trafficking, promoting public charter school growth, supporting ABQ Reads, completing the Albuquerque Rail Trail, and launching Downtown's Business Improvement District (BID) alongside Tax Increment Financing (TIF) for redevelopment projects.
Following these discussions, Amanda Scarano, senior manager of Netflix studio operations, presented details about Netflix's recent expansion. Unveiled in June, the expansion includes four new soundstages, three mills for set manufacturing, a production office, and two stage-supporting buildings on a 108-acre site. Sustainability efforts feature solar power integration with a 20-acre solar farm expected to provide five megawatts of power once operational by early 2025.
Scarano also guided board members on a tour that included visits to a mill and a screening room.
