The Season of Creation, which spans from September 1 to October 4, encourages a renewal of the relationship between people and their Creator through celebration, conversion, and commitment. This observance invites 2.2 billion Christians and others of faith to pray for and care for God's creation. During this period, participants join in prayer and action for the environment.
Rabbi Prof. David Golinkin highlights the environmental themes in Rosh Hashanah prayers, emphasizing stewardship and protection of the world. "Environmental Underpinnings in Rosh Hashanah Liturgy: We are Stewards of Our World," he states.
A series of events are scheduled throughout the month:
- September 1: Opening prayer service led by the Season of Creation Ecumenical Steering Committee.
- September 1: Event on Restoration, Renewal, Regeneration, and Justice by Lutherans Restoring Creation-Gulf Coast.
- September 4, 11, 18, 25: A series titled "And God Saw that It Was Good" by Christ the King ELCA/Lutherans Restoring Creation Gulf Coast.
- September 5: Webinar on steps to act with creation hosted by Laudato Si Action.
- September 10: Webinar on the Fossil Fuels Non-Proliferation Treaty with speakers from religious and political spheres hosted by Laudato Si Movement.
- September 21: Fossil Fuels Day of Action hosted by Laudato Si Movement.
- September 22-24: Rabbi Prof. David Golinkin explores environmental themes in Rosh Hashanah prayers with The Schechter Institutes Inc.
- September 24: "One Home One Future" celebrates one year of hope in action with multiple sessions culminating in a special celebration at 5 PM MT.
- September 25: Earth Spirit Sharing/Fall Equinox event led by Lisa Leahigh through IPL New Mexico & El Paso.
- October 4: Closing prayer service for the Feast of St. Francis led by the Ecumenical Youth Committee.
