The Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce sponsors the ABQ Reads program, which places volunteer tutors inside the classrooms of three Albuquerque Public Schools. The program relies on its many volunteer tutors to help young students gain essential reading and writing skills.

With another school year starting, ABQ Reads is seeking new volunteers to join this dedicated group.

Tutors can volunteer at any of three Albuquerque Public Schools’ Title I schools: Atrisco, Bel Air, and Whittier elementaries. They donate 90 minutes a week, and those who prefer to join a team can volunteer just one week a month.

APS provides volunteers with training before they begin one-on-one tutoring and guides them throughout the school year. ABQ Reads tutor training sessions will be held from Sept. 4-12 but are also conducted throughout the year.

Upcoming tutor training sessions:

- Sept. 4: 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

- Sept. 5: 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

- Sept. 10: 12 p.m.-3 p.m.

- Sept. 12: 12 p.m.-3 p.m.
