On Friday, Sept. 27, the San Francisco-based micromobility company Spin will start installing and testing e-scooter stations throughout Albuquerque. The locations of these stations can be found on Spin’s free mobile phone application.

Once available to the public, users are urged to operate the e-scooters safely and responsibly. All users must follow state and local rules, which apply to both bicycles and e-scooters.

General rules include:

- Helmets are required for anyone under 18 and encouraged for all users.

- Ride on the right side of the street with the flow of traffic.

- Do not operate an e-scooter on a sidewalk when there is a wide right lane, bike lane, or multi-use trail adjacent to the road in the direction of travel; when signs prohibit bicycles on the sidewalk; or in business districts where at least 50% of buildings contain commercial, office, or civic uses.

- If riding on the sidewalk is necessary, ride slowly and yield to pedestrians who always have the right of way.

- Follow official traffic signals and signs.

- Do not bring e-scooters onto City buses.

- Park responsibly without blocking sidewalks or other pedestrian pathways, intersections, bus stops, or building entrances. Park at stations or drop zones near bike racks or in landscape buffers if available. If parking on the sidewalk is necessary, do so without obstructing movement.

- Users will continue to be billed if e-scooters are not returned to authorized areas.

- Report any toppled over or improperly parked units by righting them and reporting the issue.

Using e-scooters can be dangerous as roadways, streets, alleys, sidewalks, paths, and trails may pose risks. Users must stay alert at all times and are responsible for their own safety while riding.

To report parking violations or other issues related to e-scooters, call Spin's hotline at (866) 205-2442 or email [email protected]. Issues can also be reported to 311; a 311 operator will record the call and forward it to Spin for resolution.

The City’s Shared Active Transportation Programs provide small vehicles like bicycles, scooters, e-bikes, and e-scooters for rent over short periods. These programs require a permit under Part 8-3-5 of Albuquerque's Code of Ordinances. For more information about these programs visit cabq.gov/planning/shared-active-transportation.
