At Wednesday’s City Council Meeting, City Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn recognized two City of Albuquerque employees for saving the life of a Senior Center member at the Palo Duro Senior Center.

The individual was experiencing difficulty breathing when Palo Duro Senior Center Manager David Goode instructed staff to prepare the Automated External Defibrillator (AED). General Services employee Manuel (Manny) Ibuado quickly dialed 911 and communicated the emergency. As the individual lost consciousness and collapsed, Goode checked for a pulse and started emergency CPR. Ibuado stayed on the phone with paramedics, providing critical information about the situation and relaying important instructions to Goode until the member regained consciousness. Palo Duro staff remained with the individual until Albuquerque Fire Rescue paramedics arrived and took over. The man was transported to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment, reportedly recovering due to Goode's and Ibuado's swift actions.

“David and Manny saved a life with their compassion and quick thinking. This exemplifies the dedication that our employees and managers have for the constituents of our city,” said Councilor Fiebelkorn. “We should recognize and applaud their commitment to ensuring the safety of all our neighbors who visit the Center.”

David Goode serves as Center Manager at Palo Duro Senior Center, where he consistently goes above and beyond his duties, inspiring his staff to do likewise. Manuel Ibuado sets a high standard through his hard work, dedication, and willingness to go the extra mile.

“We are incredibly proud of David and Manuel for their quick thinking and heroic actions that made all the difference in a critical moment,” said Anna Sanchez, Director of Senior Affairs. “Their dedication to the safety and well-being of members at Palo Duro Senior Center is truly inspiring, and we are so glad that our member is doing well.”

City Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn represents District 7, Albuquerque's mid-heights including uptown and parts of near northeast heights. She was elected to the City Council in December 2021.
